Oklahoma Newspaper Digitization Project: Grant Materials

Description: These grant materials were prepared for the National Digital Newspaper Program, a project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to provide access to historic American Newspapers. The Library of Congress serves as the technical adviser for the NDNP. The Award funded digitization of Oklahoma historical newspapers. For the grant, the Oklahoma Historical Society served as the lead institution and partnered with UNT as the technical partner. For this proposal, UNT’s sub-contract as technical partner was $236,024.

My Texas History Notebook: Interactive Lesson Plans for Fourth and Seventh Grade - Grant Materials

Description: These grant materials were prepared for a project funded by Humanities Texas to develop and present online lesson plans that incorporate the interactive notebook style of learning. This method of teaching combines three pivotal concepts in educational research: spiral curriculum theory, multiple intelligences, and cooperative interaction. This problem-based learning system incorporates preview assignments, multiple intelligences teaching strategies, graphically organized notes, and processing assignments that require students to demonstrate their knowledge. The documents explore the research and methodology behind this style of pedagogy, and the elements of an interactive notebook. A work plan details how the project would work with master teachers to develop this curriculum. The project was funded for $7,200.

Lone Star Ink: Exploring Texas through Historic Newspapers, 1880-1910: Grant Materials

Description: These grant materials were prepared for the National Digital Newspaper Program, a project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to provide access to historic American Newspapers. The Library of Congress serves as the technical adviser for the NDNP. NEH designated this proposal a “We the People” grant, and it was provided by NEH as an example grant in the following year’s grant round. The award funded digitization of Texas historical newspapers. For the grant, UNT served as the lead institution with partners at the Center for American History at the University of Texas, and Texas Tech University. This proposal was funded for $397,552.

Lorenzo de Zavala Online: Empressario, Statesman & Texas Revolutionary Grant Materials

The documents discuss the historical significance of Lorenzo de Zavala, the proposed materials for digitization, project goals, and publicity. Deaf Smith County: Frontier Communities of the Llano Estacado Grant Materials
