From neural and social cooperation to the global emergence of cognition

Description: This article elaborates on a discussion of the emergence of intelligence via criticality as a consequence of locality breakdown, by using criticality for the foundation of a novel generation of game theory making the local interaction between players yield long-range effects.

Code Comparison in Galaxy-scale Simulations with Resolved Supernova Feedback: Lagrangian versus Eulerian Methods

Description: Authors of the article present a suite of high-resolution simulations of an isolated dwarf galaxy using four different hydrodynamical codes: Gizmo, Arepo, Gadget, and Ramses. They find reasonable agreement on the time-averaged star formation rates as well as the joint density–temperature distributions between all codes.

Magnetic plasma expulsion

Description: The article presents one scheme for what is referred to as magnetic plasma expulsion, which would prevent the plasma from entering a given region. Magnetic plasma expulsion techniques may allow instrumentation access to the interiors of plasmas. Magnetic plasma expulsion techniques may also make alternative approaches for magnetic plasma confinement possible. Particle-in-cell simulation with the Warp code is used to study magnetic plasma expulsion. Some conditions for achieving magnetic plasma … more
