Description: The purpose of this thesis is to present a beginning program of vocational guidance through the commercial department of the small high school. Guidance, whether in the field of personality, education, health, financial, or occupational guidance, must be developed over a period of months and years. This study will deal only with the personnel, activities, and materials needed to introduce such a vocational guidance program.

Characteristics or Practices Which Contribute to Difficulties Experienced by Certain College Freshmen

Description: The purpose of this study is to make a survey of freshman classes in four Texas colleges to determine, in the opinion of first-year college students, the weaknesses in their high-school training that have operated to make their college work more difficult. Three major fields of difficulties -- subject matter of the high schools, the high-school teacher, and the high-school's part in developing habits and influencing students -- were used as a basis for the survey.

Description: The problem of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the methods and factors employed in grading students in physical education, typing, and English in fifty Class "A" high schools of Texas for the school year of 1949-59. This analysis was of two pars. One phase gave consideration to various methods used in grading pupils. The other considered factors that go to make the whole of student grades and the percentage attached to each factor. The two phases were so interrelated that it was felt that this study would not be complete without the inclusion of both.

Description: The problem of this study is to compare certain elements of appeal in favorite comic books and favorite books of fiction read by 384 ninth-grade pupils in the J. P. Elder Junior High School, Fort Worth, Texas, during a three-months period from November 7, 1949, to February 7, 1950. The purpose of this investigation is to ascertain whether the same elements of appeal are common to both types of reading, and whether they compare favorably with the findings of other investigations reported in literature on the subject.
