Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of navy blue wool with embroidery and mirrors. Base of hatlet formed of an irregularly-shaped skullcap of dark navy blue wool decorated with embroidered lines, bands, etc. in red, yellow, and white. Over the surface of the fabric are small 1.5 cm. diameter mirrors in pink and red stitched borders. All edges are trimmed in gray/purple beads. Surmounting the hatlet are three bows of the same materials, and the whole is overlaid with fine dark blue veiling. Hatlet is lined in dark blue mesh and edged underneath with dark blue grosgrain ribbon. Attached to either side is a small plastic comb to secure the hatlet to wearer's head. Designer's label: "Bes-Ben / Made in Chicago". Gift of John C. Murphy, through the Chicago Historical Society.

Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of black plastic tubing. The low crown is made of a tight spiral of twisted black plastic tubing with four open areas near the edge. The front edge of the crown extends to form 4 points, each of which is surmounted by a "bow" of similar shiny black tubing tying together pairs of shiny black plastic ovals. The back edge of the crown extends to form two semi-circular lobes. Overlaying the crown, but beneath the "bows" is black netting veil, with small pieces of black tubing worked into some of the intersections at front of hat. The inside of the crown is lined with black mesh. Two plastic combs, one to each side, are inside crown of hat to secure it to wearer's head. Description: Headpiece of off-white satin. Designed as an open oval ring, the headpiece is made of a 1 inch wide stuffed headring overlaid with a veil of black net with embroidered floral forms. The veil extends down at front, and is gathered at sides. Retailer's label: "Neiman-Marcus"

Headpiece

Description: Headpiece, possibly for a wedding. The headpiece is formed as a "butterfly" shaped wired under-structure covered with white velvet, curved to fit the wearer across the top of the head from ear to ear. The "wings" of the butterfly are covered with a wide white mesh, and on each side is a large artificial flower of white taffeta and white velvet, with green velvet leaves with rhinestones. Some remains of beige veiling. No labels or tags.

Skirt is gathered at natural waist; piping detail in pink linen at front waist seam. Pink linen sash attaches at side seams and ties in back. Fully lined in sheer organdy fabric.

Description: Little Girl's pinafore dress ensemble of pink organdy, consisting of: A) Dress. Jewel neck and short puffed sleeves are trimmed in white lace. Skirt gathers at yoke. Center back opening of two mother-of-pearl buttons. B) Pinafore. Square neck and double layer of ruffles trimmed in white lace for sleeves. Skirt has a ruche of lace above scalloped hem. Center back opening of three mother-of-pearl buttons.

Description: Maternity blouse of rose pink douppioni silk. Sleeveless with cape style yoke which falls over the shoulders. Trim of yoke extends to form tie at front. Blouse gathers under yoke. Center front opening with closure of four large rhinestone buttons and barred buttonholes; supplemented with snap at yoke. Large patch pockets at sides are quilted with rhinestone accents at corners of quilting. Unlined. Designer's label at center back neckline: "Page Boy / Dallas"
