Hat

Description: Hat of red straw. The low, flat-top crown slopes to base, swelling out to form a very narrow brim. The body of the hat is of a loose woven red straw overlaid with strips of woven red straw radiating from the top center of the crown. At the front of the hat is a dark red velvet bow. The interior of the hat is unlined, but the strips of straw continue under the brim, forming a self-lining. Around inside of crown at base is an inner hatband of dark red grosgrain ribbon. Attached to the inner hatband is a black elasticized cord to secure hat to wearer's head. Beneath brim towards back extend small red velvet covered metal(?) loops to help secure hat to wearer's head. Designer's label sewn inside crown: "Gilbert Orcel / Paris / Made in France. Retailer's label sewn to inner hatband: "Henri Bendel / New York"

Description: Hat of gray fur felt. The low, rounded crown is made of gray beaver(?) fur felt over a structure of woven straw. Brim is of same felt, and appears narrow in front, but rolls under and extends back under crown. At sides and back, brim curves upwards, and then back downwards to extend under crown. Along sides and back of crown is section of gray grosgrain ribbon which projects through the upturned brim at back and becomes a large bow with trailing ends. There is an inner hatband of gray grosgrain ribbon around the edges of the brim where they meet the inside base of the crown. Attached to the inner hatband is an elasticized cord to secure hat to wearer's head, and attached to the front brim underside is a plastic comb to secure hat to wearer's head. Maker's label sewn to inner hatband: "Legroux Soeurs / 4 Rue Cambon Paris / Made in France".

Hat

Description: Hat of silk faille. The body of the hat is made of woven straw, covered with beige/off-white silk faille. The shallow, domed crown is made in two parts - the upper shallow dome, and a collar into which the upper crown is inset. The upper edge of the collar is pipped in black. The shallow sloping brim is similarly constructed, with an inner band and then outer section with a black pipped edge between the sections. The crown is unlined, revealing the woven straw. The brim segments are lined in the same faille of the outside of the hat. Around the inside of the crown is an inner hatband of cream grosgrain ribbon, two which is attached a black elasticized cord to secure the hat to wearer's head. A small red/brown stitch on the inner hatband indicates the front of the hat. Designer's label sewn to inner hatband: "Christian Dior / Paris / Made in / France"

Description: Hat created with a tan silk scarf printed with black "leopard print". The framework is a pillbox style low, cylindrical, slightly domed crown, over which the silk scarf is fastened, pulled to back forming knotted ornament with trailing end. Lined in white silk, with inner black grosgrain ribbon hatband, with translucent brown plastic comb at inside front to secure to wearer's head. Description: Hat of braided navy straw. Similar to a pillbox hat, the cylindrical crown is slightly domed, and surmounted by a sphere at top center made of navy satin braid. The whole is overlaid with blue veiling/netting. Unlined, with inner dark blue grosgrain ribbon hatband. Designer's label at inner hatband: "Cedar Crest / Original" Accompanied by a single hatpin, the head covered with blue fabric matching the hat.

Description: Hat of brown fur and leather. The cylindrical light brown leather crown is encircled by large open circular band of brown fur (mink?) oriented to create diagonal stripes. At base of crown is band of same leather, tied into flat bow at back with trailing ends. Lined in reddish/brown lace, and with two small combs to secure to wearer's head. No labels in hat.

Description: Hat of gray felt with gray beads and silver sequins. The cylindrical crown flares from lower edge to upper, and has a low domed, set in top. The surface of the hat is covered in curving, meandering lines of gray beads, enhanced by double-bands of silver sequins which form "zig-zag" motifs on sides, and around dome of crown. Front and sides of hat overlaid with short length of light gray net veil. Hat is unlined, with gray grosgrain ribbon inner hatband. No labels in hat.

Designed somewhat as a toque, the hat has a high, cylindrical crown which is encircled at base by a wide black velvet ribbon with bow at back and spray of black feathers extending from bow. Description: Hat made from white straw. The high, cylindrical, slightly domed crown flares out slightly at bottom into an asymmetrical brim. The hat is composed of bands of 10 strands of straw that are twined and platted and woven into shape. Decorating the hat are applied small 4-petaled silk flowers placed all over. At side is a thin bow of white grosgrain ribbon. Unlined, but with an inner white grosgrain ribbon hatband. Sewn into the inner ribbon band is retailer's label, "Saks Fifth Avenue / Millinery Salon". Sewn to the back of the retailer's label is a Union Label, #DB 995583

At right side are two fans or "conch shaped" decorations of navy grosgrain ribbon. The hat is overlaid at front with a navy veil. Inner navy grosgrain ribbon hatband. The base is of black lace/net, totally covered with massed black sequins. At sides are small diamond-shaped sections that extend down to either side of wearer's head. Description: Hat of beige/brown felt. The domed crown gently transitions into the medium-width brim, and extends forward in front, flattening and forming a bill-like extension. At sides and back, brim turns up and extends vertically most of height of crown. The underside of the brim/bill is made of same felt, carried under to continue same facing as top. Crown is unlined, and the hat has a brown grosgrain ribbon inner hatband and a black elastic cord secured to inner hatband to help secure hat to wearer's head. Label sewn inside crown: "Mr. John"

Description: Hat of white straw and navy blue/black embroidery appliques. The domed crown is of finely woven white straw. The narrow brim turns up at the edges, somewhat irregularly, and is edged in dark navy blue/black embroidery appliques that cover upper and lower parts of the brim. The inside of the crown has a dark navy blue/black grosgrain ribbon inner hatband. Designer's label sewn to inner hatband: "Hazel Eller - Custom Made". Accompanied by two short hat-pins, one with a head covered in matching straw, the other with a simulated pearl head.
