Hat

Description: Hat of cinnamon brown broadtail fur. The hat is designed as a shallow cone-shaped crown, covered with broadtail fur, the edges of which roll under and up into the inside of the crown. The hat is lined with a bronze/brown slightly iridescent fabric, and has inner black grosgrain ribbon hatband. Designer's label on inner hatband: "Givenchy / Paris"; "Made in / France"

Jacket

Description: Waist-length black simulated alligator jacket. The cropped shell is constructed of panels of leather blind-stamped to simulate alligator. Panels are edged with silver-colored circular metal grommeted eyelets, and are joined with knitted black cording. The high, rounded spread collar is of ribbed black knit. Zipper closure from throat to hem at center front. The jacket is unlined, and has two interior, black canvas, envelope pockets with snap closures. Label is located inside at center back, below the collar. "Paco Rabanne / Paris Made in France". Jacket was donated as part of an ensemble which also included black wool and cashmere knit sweater by Dior, and black hip-hugger trousers by Remy.

Mini Dress

Description: Mini dress of bright red wool jersey knit. The tubular mini dress has a rounded neckline and short sleeves. Black, shiny vinyl trim at neckline, sleeve hem, lower hem, and in the form of six Pierre Cardin bullseye trademarks arranged in a triangle from natural waist to lower hem. At center back are hook and eye and zipper closure. Dress is unlined. Designer's label: "Pierre Cardin / Paris New York" Care label: "The vinyl trim / on this garment / has been specially treated / to make dry cleaning possible".

Skirt Suit

Description: Suit of cream/blue/pink wool boucle. A) Waist-length jacket with round neckline and no collar, two-piece set-in long sleeves, four patch pockets on front, and center-front opening with 5 circular sculptural lion-head gold-tone metal buttons. Matching non-functional buttons sewn on each pocket and on cuffs. Neckline, opening, cuffs, and top edges of pockets with rolled(?) edging. Fully lined in pink silk. Inside bottom hemline weighted with gold chain. No labels. B) Skirt of same material. Below-knee-length. Slim, almost straight, flaring slightly to hem. Narrow waistband with two hook-and-eye closures, just above zipper closure. Lined in pink silk. No labels.

Suit - Jacket, Skirt, and Blouse

Description: Three-piece suit of pink/lavender wool yarn with cream, yellow and green highlights in exaggerated weave pattern. A) Jacket. Hip length, with center front opening having three circular gold-tone buttons with reliefs of lion heads with oval buttonholes. Sleeves are 3/4 length and adorned at lower edge with a false cuff turned back to reveal pink facing, forming a square, with two matching buttons (1 missing). Standing 2-1/2" collar. Two front flap pockets lined with pink fabric and finished with welted edge at opening. Lined in quilted pink silk satin. Jacket is weighted with "Chanel" chain at hemline. B) Blouse of pink silk. Banded rounded neckline. Sleeveless; hip length. Princess seams. Center front opening with hook and eye at neckline and 4 self-covered buttons and oval buttonholes. String loops at sides for belt at natural waist (missing belt). Lined in self. Care Label at left hem: "Is Recommended That This Garment / Should Be Dry Cleaned" Size Label: "12" C) Skirt, matching jacket. Slightly A-line, mid-calf length (23-1/2"). Narrow waistband of pink silk. Left side closure of 7" zipper with two hook & eyes on waistband. Lined in quilted pink silk satin; 1-3/4" lace hem facing. Skirt has been taken in 1-1/2" at front center seam. Size tag at center back waistline: "12"

Breton Hat

Description: Breton hat of dark, almost navy blue felt. The high, cylindrical crown is slightly domed at top, and is encircled by the wide brim, which is upturned almost to vertical, forming a "wall" around the crown. The hat is unlined, with a dark blue inner grosgrain ribbon hatband, and with a small attached comb to help secure hat to wearer's head. Designer's label: "Balenciaga / 10, Avenue George V. Paris"

Calotte

Description: Calotte of beaded black satin. Evening hat in the form of a calotte (also spelled "calot"). The low, domed crown is made of segments of black satin over a core of woven straw. The surface is embellished with black plastic sequins and beads of various sizes. At top of crown is small squashed spheroid finial covered with a pattern of cylindrical and circular faceted black plastic beads. Inside lower edge of crown is black grosgrain ribbon band. Sewn behind band are three elastic loops to help secure hat to head of wearer. No labels.

Cocktail Dress

Description: Cocktail dress of sheer black silk chiffon and lace over tan silk lining. Sleeveless; round neckline. Unlined sheer chiffon above bust. Knee-length; waist seam. Skirt has 5 tiers of chiffon each edged with 2" black lace. Tiers start at center front, wrap around body and attach again at left near side seam. Top tier shows lace on left attaching to waist seam. Center back zipper covered by snap closures. Bodice has 5 small black covered buttons at center back. Interior has a built-in corset with boning. Designer's label inside at side seam: "Made in France / Automne-Hiver 1964 / Christian Dior / Paris"; stamped on label: "125104"

Day Dress

Description: Day dress of bright yellow linen. Sleeveless with jewel neckline; contrasting, darker yellow top-stitching. Empire waist. Two paddle shaped patch pockets at sides with 1-1/4" non-functional buttons covered in white vinyl set in "handle" of each "paddle". Center back invisible zipper with hook & eye. Lined in bright yellow satin synthetic, with narrow band of pale yellow lace along selvage edge of fabric. Description: Two-piece suit of black and ivory plaid wool with black silk blouse. (a) Jacket: Short unfitted jacket of black and ivory windowpane plaid wool; V-neckline with standard notched collar and short lapels.;3/4 length sleeves cut in one with jacket body supplemented by single triangular gusset under arm; lapped centerfront opening with three round, plastic, ivory buttons and bound buttonholes; front has a large pair of faux pocket flaps at lower chest level; fully lined in white silk. (b) Blouse: Semi-fitted short black silk faille blouse with jewel neckline; 3/4 length sleeves are cut in one with blouse body and supplemented by single triangular shaped gusset under arm; centerfront opening laps left over right with four round, black, plastic buttons and bound buttonholes with one snap at neck; folded hem; facings and hem interfaced with black silk organza. Label stitched at bottom of back neck facing. (c) Skirt: Matching plaid semi-tailored, knee length skirt with narrow rolled waistband; slight gathers at front waist; offset left side front zipper closure supplemented by single hook&eye closure on waistband; folded hem; fully lined in white silk.

Cocktail Suit - Dress, Underskirt, and Jacket

Description: Three piece cocktail suit of black quilted silk damask consisting of: Sleeveless tunic overdress, knee-length, constructed as an "apron", with back opening which overlaps and secures with three covered buttons. Dress is sleeveless, with rounded neckline, slightly raised waist, princess seaming, and skirt which is slightly flaring at hips and then becoming tubular. Underskirt skirt, with wide hem of the same damask which extends 8 inches below hem of dress, creating a layered look. Matching jacket with Bermuda collar, double breasted with three double rows of braided buttons and straight bracelet-length fitted sleeves. Designer's label: "Givenchy / Paris" Handwritten label underneath designer's label: "28554" Costumer's tag: "Don. Mrs. Audrey Hepburn"

Designer's label at inside right side seam " Autumne - Hiver 1963 / Christian Dior / Paris" Style number stamped on label: "20980" b) Jacket/over blouse; box style. Front placket with 6 mother-of-pearl 1" non-functioning buttons and bound buttonholes gives a double breasted appearance. Rolled collar which wraps around neckline is fastened with a matching button and loop and 12 covered snaps. Long, set-in sleeves. Center back zipper with hook & eye. Lined in sheer, ivory organza.

Sleeveless, with squared armholes which have plackets over shoulders which extend down front to waistline and form opening for pockets. Six belt loops of same fabric. Center back hidden zipper with hook & eye. Lined in dark gray synthetic fabric. Designer's label at back right shoulder: "Pierre Cardin / Paris New York" Retailer's label at back left shoulder: "Maisonnette / Neiman-Marcus" Union label and size tag attached to back seam. Evening Dress

Description: Evening dress of champagne hand appliqued lace over fine net. A) Fitted bodice with jewel neckline. Long, set-in sleeves with 6 self-covered buttons and loops at hem. Center back opening with 13 snaps. Lined in extra layer of net. B) Dress with strapless bodice of net covered in champagne organza. Street length, with skirt of three tiers of matching lace. Center back closure of hook & eyes. Waist band of 3" pink grosgrain ribbon which forms a bow at the center back and closes with hook & eyes and snaps. Bodice is reinforced with net "boning" and skirt is lined in champagne organza.

Hat

Description: "Lampshade" style hat of black straw or raffia. The basically conical hat is woven of a black straw material, with flattened top. On the front of the hat, off-set to the left, is affixed a wide black velvet ribbon from the top edge of the crown down to almost the brim. Sewn to the ribbon at top is a circular stamped metal brooch set with 17 large circular rhinestones in three concentric circles. The hat is lined in black net, with inner black grosgrain hatband. Sewn to the inner ribbon band is manufacturer's label: "Edette / Exclusive / New York - Paris"

Hat

Description: Hat of black silk chiffon. The hat is formed from a cylindrical pillbox style hat surmounted by a conical section that is folded back and flares out to form an extension behind the hat. Where the surmounting piece meets the pillbox is a black bow formed from the same cloth. Inside of crown is lined in stiff black netting, and has a black grosgrain ribbon running along the base of the crown. A small plastic comb is sewn in front of hat to inner ribbon to secure it to wearer's head. No labels. The donor records that "... Balenciaga showed it with dress and sleeveless coat..."
