Festival ensemble from the Lisu, a Thai hill tribe. a) Top. b) Pants of hand-woven cotton with rice paste indigo resist patterning, applique, and cross stitch. c) Pouch of woven bamboo stained a dark maroon. Flat oval top, oval body, tapering to ridge at bottom. Lid secured with loop and latch. Around body of bag is band of blue and red beads and small bells. Maroon feather "pendants" at either side which terminate in a bell. Black cord shoulder strap, with "bracelet" form fastened around strap, of maroon yarn with cowrie shells. Unlined. d) Headpiece. Flat top crown of wound bamboo with 6cm wide headband. Back of headpiece has a hanging 18cm panel of black woven hemp(?) fabric. Entire headpiece is elaborately trimmed in strung and hanging shells, beads, ribbons, and silver studs.

Cut-away at front and with long sleeves, the jacket has inner shoulder pads and is fully lined in black silk satin. B) Pants. Full-length, high-waisted, and with tapered legs, the pants have a satin waistband and inverted pleats at top of hips at front and back. Slit pockets at sides open along edge of a black satin stripe which runs length of leg at side. The pants have a side zipper and hook-and-eye closure. Bodice is one shoulder, with an asymmetrical neckline; the strap is gathered and meets at the shoulder in a small flat bow with two smaller 5/8" straps, one blue and one white. Skirt is comprised of two layers: the upper layer is of the blue and white striped cotton (9.5" at its shortest), the lower layer is of white cotton and has a full a-line silhouette. Natural waist with 1/2" band of blue cotton around the waistband; skirt is gathered. Left side seam zipper closure with hook and eye. Partially lined in white polyester. Size 8 or 28" waist. Dress of red chiffon, sequins and beading. The bodice of the dress is of draped red chiffon with deep V-neckline at front and shawl collar with deep drape at back. The long, full sleeves gather into tight cuffs, each having four red chiffon covered domed buttons and red fabric loops. At the natural waist of the dress is a horizontally ruched band which gives the effect of a sash of the same material, with simulated bow and trailing ends. The bodice simulates a wrap dress, with one side of the collar ends becoming part of the bow of the sash, and the other securing inside with a snap. The bow conceals three hook-and-eye closures and the top of the zipper closure. The short skirt is completely covered with sequins and beads. Black sequins run in horizontal and vertical bands forming a grid/trellis pattern. The vertical rectangular spaces within the grid are filled with rectangles of sequins in green, black, white and orange/red, or with tubular beads in white/iridescent, gray and yellow. There are also scattered irregular patches of orange white or green sequins on the black sequin grid. The skirt is lined in black fabric.
