Description: Abstract: This report contains lists of stations at which the U.S. Geological Survey collects water data either on a continuous basis or at least on a daily basis. The files contain daily values for streamflow, reservoir levels or contents, water temperatures, specific conductance, sediment discharge plus data for several other quality parameters that are measured by means of monitoring equipment or result from analyses of samples collected on a daily basis. The stations are listed according to… more

Magnitude and Frequency of Floods in Small Drainage Basins in Idaho

Description: Abstract: A method which relates basin characteristics with peak flow characteristics is presented for determining magnitude and frequency of floods on streams with drainage areas between 0.5 and 200 square miles. Regression equations for each of eight regions are presented for determination of the 10-year flood. Peak flows for the 25- and 50-year floods can then be estimated from ratios developed for each region. Regression equations are not developed because of poor definitions for several ar… more

Material Property Investigation for Project Middle Gust, Events 1, 2, and 4: Report 1, Subsurface Exploration and Laboratory Test Results

Description: This report documents the results of a site investigation conducted to support free-field ground shock calculations and field operations for Project MIDDLE GUST, Events I, II, and III. The site is characterized by a 6- to 9-ft-thick section of sandy clay (CL) and clayey sand (SC) overburden overlying almost 500 ft of clay shale of the Pierre Formation which overlies older sedimentary rocks. A perched groundwater table in the overburden, approximately 4 ft below the ground surface, is fed by wat… more

Material Property Investigation for Project Middle Gust, Events 4 and 5: Report 1, Subsurface Exploration and Laboratory Test Results

Description: This report documents the results of a site investigation conducted to support a program of free-field ground shock calculations and field operations for Project MIDDLE GUST, Events IV and V. The site is characterized by a 28-ft-thick section of weathered clay shale (CH) overlying approximately 650 ft of competent clay shale of the Pierre Formation which overlies older sedimentary rocks.

Mica Beneficiation

Description: From Abstract: "The micaceous schist ores yielded concentrates containing 95 to 98 percent mica, with recoveries ranging from 70 to 83 percent. Part 1 of this report summarizes the process development work and demonstrates the feasibility of producing commercial-grade mica concentrates. The report also includes details of commercial beneficiation and grinding of mica. Also included in part 2 of this report are details of commercial mica production, including methods of mining, recovering, and g… more

The Potential Radiological Implications of Nuclear Facilities in the Upper Mississippi River Basin in the Year 2000: The Year 2000 Study

Description: From introduction: This study considered the region comprising the Upper Mississippi and Lower Missouri River basins and to assess the contributions to the radiation potentially received by the populace from airborne radionuclides originating in adjacent areas, an "air envelope" zone, some 200 miles wide.

Properties of Glasses in Some Ternary Systems Containing BaO and SiO2

Description: Report discussing the glass forming regions in six ternary oxide systems containing BaO, Si02, and a third oxide. The properties of the resulting glasses were measured and the results reported. The data on refractive indices, dispersions, and specific volumes were evaluated by computer methods in an attempt to identify "substructures" containing the cations present in the glasses.

Report on airborne radioactivity surveys and the uranium deposits in the Red River region of Texas and Oklahoma

Description: The U. S. Atomic Energy Commission conducted an airborne radioactivity survey of the Red River region of Texas and Oklahoma beginning in December 1955 and ending in May 1956. All or parts of Archer, Clay, and Montague Counties in northern Texas and Carter, Cotton, Jefferson, and Stephens Counties in southern Oklahoma were surveyed. Particular attention was paid to those areas where exposures are found of red beds of the Permian Wichita Group. Field examinations were conducted of anomalies disco… more

Salt-Water Movement in the Lower Withlacoochee-Cross-Florida Barge Canal Complex

Description: The intent of the investigation was to determine how salt water from the Gulf moves in the river-canal complex under the influence of various combinations of fresh-water discharge and ocean tide. Information about the extent of inland movement, concentration, frequency of occurrence, and residence times of salt water in the river and canal was sought, particularly during times of farthest upstream movement of the salt water.

Space Groups and Lattice Complexes

Description: From Abstract: "The lattice complex is to the space group what the site is to the point group - an assemblage of symmetry-related equivalent points. The Tables list site sets and lattice complexes in standard and alternate representation. The higher the symmetry of the crystal structures is, the more useful the lattice-complex approach should be on the road to the ultimate goal their classification."
