Report issued by the Bureau of Mines over recovery methods of alumina through leaching of kaolin clay. The materials, equipment, and procedures used are discussed. This report includes tables, and illustrations.
From Abstract: "The development and status of technology for producing titanium from U.S. resource materials are summarized in this Bureau of Mines report."
From introduction: The gravity survey of the Nevada Test Site and contiguous areas of southern Nevada and southeastern California has been made by the U.S. Geological Survey on behalf of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The objective of this study is to delineate and interpret gravity anomalies and regional trends so that the configuration and depth of the buried erosional surface of the Paleozoic rocks may be determined.
Report issued by the Bureau of Mines regarding studies conducted on zinc-lead mines in Clark County, Nevada. Physical qualities of the mine, equipment used, and methods of sampling are presented. This report includes tables, and maps.
Tabular data reporting soil analyses, auger sample analyses, and rock analyses gathered from the area of Jean Dry Lake in southern Nevada (see pages 4 and 5 of report).
Abstract: This report presents the results of the Roach Lake Basin, Nevada, orientation study in the Kingman 10 x 2* quadrangle of the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS). Wet, dry, and playa sediment samples were collected throughout the 420 km2 semi-arid, closed basin. Water samples were collected at the few available wells and springs. In addition to neutron activation analysis for uranium and 15 to 20 trace elements on all samples, field and laboratory measurements were made on water samples. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tabular hardcopy and fiche format. Four full-size overlays for use with the Kingman NTMS 1:250,000 quadrangle are included. Water sample site locations, water sample uranium concentration, sediment sample site locations, and sediment sample total uranium concentration are shown on the separate overlays. A general description of the area and the rock type distribution is presented. Some of the data in this report have been issued previously in "Preliminary Report on the Roach Lake Pilot Study," GJBX-44(76), August 1976.
Supplementary data containing site location and uranium concentration data of water and sediment samples to accompany a report on hydrogeochemical and stream sediment reconnaissance in Nevada.
Abstract: The Three Kids manganese district, in Clark County, Nev., has produced between 15,000 and 20,000 tons of ore, which contained between 30 and 40 percent manganese, 1.5 percent iron, and 12 percent silica. It is estimated that the reserves in the district aggregate about 5,500,000 tons of ore averaging about 10 percent manganese. Of this amount about 800,000 tons contains more than 20 percent manganese and 4,700,000 tons contains from 5 to 20 percent manganese. The manganese ore is a sedimentary deposit and consists of wad interbedded with lake or playa sediments belonging to the Muddy Creek formation of Pliocene (?) age. Where the manganese content is as high as 30 percent, the wad forms thick massive beds separated by thin almost barren partings. Where the content is low, the wad forms very thin lenses or small irregular blebs scattered through sandstone, or a cement for the sand grains. The zone of manganiferous beds ranges from about 10 to 75 feet in aggregate thickness, but at most places the thickness is between 25 and 40 feet.
Report issued by the U.S. Bureau of Mines regarding specific manganese ore from Nevada and its use in electrolytic production. The development processes and methods are presented. This report includes tables, maps, illustrations, and photographs.
From Abstract: "An Aerial Radiological Measuring Survey (ARMS) of the Las Vegas area was made for the Civil Effects Test Operations, Division of Biology and Medicine, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, by Edgerton, Germeshausen & Grier, Inc., between May 21 and June 23, 1961. The survey was part of a nationwide program to measure present environmental levels of gamma radiation. Approximately 6000 traverse miles were flown, at an attitude of 500 ft above the ground, in a 100-mile square centered near Las Vegas. The EG&G ARMS-II instrumentation was used in the survey."
