Review of Potential Host Rocks for Radioactive Waste Disposal in the Southeast United States, Southern Piedmont Subregion

Description: From abstract: "A literature study was conducted on the geology of the Southern Piedmont province of the states of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The purpose was to identify geologic areas potentially suitable for containment of a repository for the long-term isolation of solidified radioactive waste."

The Sideband Technique In A Variable Frequency NMR Spectrometer

Description: The purpose of this Note is to point out the advantages of the sideband technique over the derivative method in wideline NMR spectroscopy. In the sideband technique the absorption spectrum is recorded directly and the modulation amplitude is no longer a determining factor in the resolution.

Nature of Bond and Diole Moment of the LiH Molecule

Description: A description of the character of the bond as a superposition of homopolar and ionic bonding is a very useful approximation in quantum-mechanical research on the properties of molecules. In the LiH molecule, it may be assumed with sufficient accuracy that the bond is formed by two electrons, since, besides the outer electrons composing the bond, there is only a closed layer of inner electrons in the lithium atom.

Salicylic Acid as a Reagent for the Spectrophotometric Determination of Beryllium

Description: 1. The reaction between beryllium salts and salicylic acid was studied by the spectrophotometric method in the ultra violet portion of the spectrum. The optimum pH value for this process was found to be 9.0 to 9.5. 2. Two independent methods showed that beryllium and salicylic acid form a compound in the ration 1:2. The instability constant was determined for the a complex of the formula (Be OH Sal2)3- names (4.9 +- 0.6) x 10-18. 3. The stability of the complex and the availability of the reag… more

SYN3D: a Single-Channel, Spatial Flux Synthesis Code for Diffusion Theory Calculations

Description: This report is a user's manual for SYN3D, a computer code which uses single-channel, spatial flux synthesis to calculate approximate solutions to two- and three-dimensional, finite-difference, multi-group neutron diffusion theory equations. SYN3D is designed to run in conjunction with any one of several one- and two-dimensional, finite-difference codes (required to generate the synthesis expansion functions) currently being used in the fast reactor community. The report describes the theory and… more

The Utility Subroutine Package Used by Applied Physics Division Export Codes

Description: This report describes the current state of the utility subroutine package used with codes being developed by the staff of the Applied Physics Division. The package provides a variety of useful functions for BCD input processing, dynamic core-storage allocation and management, binary I/O and data manipulation. The routines were written to conform to coding standards which facilitate the exchange of programs between different computers.

Reservoir Development Impacts on Surface-Water Quantity and Quality in the Yampa River Basin, Colorado and Wyoming

Description: From introduction: This report describes the results of an investigation in which three computer models were used to evaluate different levels of the proposed reservoir development. One model simulated streamflow conditions with alternative multireservoir configurations; a second model simulated the dissolved-solids concentrations at various locations in the basin; and a third model used streamflows and dissolved solids concentrations to simulate the water-quality conditions within certain prop… more

Theoretical Damping in Roll and Rolling Moment Due to Differential Wing Incidence for Slender Cruciform Wings and Wing-Body Combinations

Description: "A method of analysis based on slender-wing theory is developed to investigate the characteristics in roll of slender cruciform wings and wing-body combinations. The method makes use of the conformal mapping processes of classical hydrodynamics which transform the region outside a circle and the region outside an arbitrary arrangement of line segments intersecting at the origin. The method of analysis may be utilized to solve other slender cruciform wing-body problems involving arbitrarily assi… more
