NACA Mach number indicator for use in high-speed tunnels

Description: Report presenting a description of a device for indicating stream Mach number in a high-speed tunnel. It consists of a mechanism for determining the pressure ratio that Mach number is a function of. The instrument is in service in the 8-foot high-speed tunnel and its accuracy has been found adequate for wind-tunnel requirements.

Wind-Tunnel Investigation of the Effects of Spoilers on the Characteristics of a Low-Drag Airfoil Equipped With a 0.25-Chord Slotted Flap

Description: Report discussing the effects of circular-arc spoilers on the section characteristics of an NACA 66,2-216 airfoil with a 0.25-chord slotted flap. Spoilers were tested on the upper surface of the airfoil, on the lower surface, and on both simultaneously. Only the simultaneous placement of spoilers was found to provide satisfactory results as a lateral control device.

Determination of General Relations for the Behavior of Turbulent Boundary Layers

Description: Report presenting an analysis of data for turbulent boundary layers along wings and bodies of various shapes in order to determine the fundamental variables that control the development of turbulent boundary layers. The Effect of Increased Cooling Surface on Performance of Aircraft-Engine Cylinders as Shown by Tests of the NACA Cylinder

Description: Report presenting a method of constructing fins of nearly optimum proportions to the point where a cylinder has been manufactured and tested. Data were obtained on cylinder temperature for a wide range of inlet-manifold pressures, engine speeds, and cooling-pressure differences. Results regarding cooling equations, cylinder-temperature relationships, and a comparison of three cylinder cooling performances are provided.

Flight tests of various tail modifications on the Brewster XSBA-1 airplane 3: measurements of flying qualities with tail configuration 3

Description: Report presenting a series of tests on the Brewster XSBA-1 airplane to determine the effects of various tail modifications. Wind tunnel investigation of control surface characteristics 9: some analytical considerations and experimental test results for an internally balanced flap

Description: Report presenting an analysis of the probable aerodynamic section characteristics of a plain flap with various arrangements of internal balance. Wind-tunnel investigation of perforated split flaps for use as dive brakes on a rectangular NACA 23012 airfoil

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the aerodynamic characteristics of a rectangular NACA 23012 airfoil with single and double perforated split flaps in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel. Effect of Compressibility on Pressure Distribution Over an Airfoil With a Slotted Frise Aileron

Description: Pressure distribution measurements were made over an airfoil with slotted Frise aileron up to 0.76 Mach at various angles of attack and aileron defections. Section characteristics were determined from these pressure data. Results indicated loss of aileron rolling power for deflections ranging from -12 Degrees to -19 Degrees.

Wind-tunnel tests of four full-scale seaplane floats

Description: Report presenting wind tunnel testing of four full-scale seaplane floats to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the floats and to evaluate several drag-reducing refinements. Four floats were investigated; two differed only in external details like flush rivets, while one was the type used on twin-float installations.
