Transistorization of Nuclear Counting Circuits

Description: From Abstract: "The advantage of long operational life, low power drain and miniaturization may be realized in nuclear counting circuits through the use of transistors. The disadvantage of instability, due to the effects of temperature change in the transistor, may be minimized in counting circuit designs. Representative circuits of a binary stage, amplitude discriminator, one shot multivibrator, and ratemeters are included. These were designed using the criteria of an minimum Beta and a maximum Ico."

Description: From Abstract: "Discussed in the paper are the production of the uranium fuel alloy, the fabrication of the cladding components from Zircaloy-2 ingot, the assembly, welding, evacuation, and sealing of the cladding billets, the jacketing of the cladding billets with steel, and the roll bonding, heat treatment, stripping, and cleaning of the fuel plates. Evaluation of the fuel plates produced is also included."

Description: From Introduction: "This report on the development of the oil-recycle process covers: 1. Review of the work in Germany on the first oil-circulation process. 2. Work by the Bureau of Mines, United States Department of the Interior. (a) Preliminary experiments on a laboratory scale, consisting of orientation tests and bench-scale operation, employing a 1-foot bed of catalyst in a 3-inch diameter vessel. (b) Operation of 2 pilot plants with a 4- or - 8 foot bed of catalyst in 3-inch-diameter reactors. Up to 3 gallons of C2+ hydrocarbons was produced per day in each of these plants. (c) Operation of a barrel-per-day pilot plant with an 8-foot bed of catalyst in an 8-inch-diameter reactor."

Description: Summary: "The engineering survey, summarized in this report, consisted of studies on acid mine water, underground-water pools, the "buried valley" of the Susquehanna River, inundated anthracite reserves, mine pumping plants, surface-water pools, seepage of surface water into mines, barrier pillars between mines, and geologic features of the region that included core drilling along alinement of the proposed Conowingo tunnel and to some extent along the proposed Marcus Hook alternate tunnel route. A comprehensive study was conducted to determine corrosion and erosion resistance of selected metals and alloys and to ascertain their suitability for components of pumps to be used in handling acid mine water."
