Application of Remote-Sensing Techniques to Hydrologic Studies in Selected Coal-Mined Areas of Southeastern Kansas

Description: Report describing a study to use remote-sensing techniques to look for relationships between disturbances of the land, water, and vegetation with underground coal mines in the Cherry Creek basin of Kansas. The study looked at color and color-infared photographs, compared with water-quality data to successfully identify contamination and other potential problems.

Description: From introduction: This report describes the results of 1980 sampling of ground-water pumpage for irrigation on the High Plains, one phase of the High Plains Regional Aquifer-System Analysis project. These data were collected to estimate the volume of irrigation water pumped during 1980 and to determine current trends in irrigation pumpage on the High Plains.

Hydrology of the Ogallala Aquifer in Ford County, Southwestern Kansas

Description: From purpose and scope: The objectives of this cooperative investigation between the U.S. Geological Survey and Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 3 were (1) to update and interpret geologic and hydrologic information affecting the Ogallala aquifer in Ford County, and (2) to evaluate hydrologic conditions in the Ogallala aquifer in Ford County during 1980 and 1981.

Improvement of Flood-Frequency Estimates for Selected Small Watersheds in Eastern Kansas Using a Rainfall-Runoff Model
