Analysis of harmonic forces produced at hub by imbalances in helicopter rotor blades

Description: From Introduction: "First, an analysis of loads transmitted to the hub by balanced blades will be given. In the second section, the additional loads transmitted to the hub in a direction normal to the plane of rotation of the blades by imbalances in a rotor are derived. In the entire analysis, the results are given in terms of the forces transmitted to the hub by a single rotating helicopter blade in flight, and these are regarded as known or given."

Analysis of Laminar Forced-Convection Heat Transfer in Entrance Region of Flat Rectangular Ducts

Description: From Introduction: "Beyond the position where the boundary layer treatment can no longer be used, curves have been faired to connect the Nusselt number results of the present analysis with those of reference 3, in which a parabolic velocity profile is assumed throughout the entire duct length. So that a comparison could be made with the results of reference 3, the boundary layer analysis was used to study the development of the temperature profile associated with a parabolic velocity profile th… more

Description: From Introduction: "The problem of free-convection flow as produced by a body force about a flat plate in the direction of the body force was studied at the NACA Lewis laboratory and is treated in a formal and more general manner herein. The method used is somewhat similar to that used in reference 4 wherein consideration was given to the free-convection flow at high Grashof numbers in a horizontal cylinder which had a variable surface-temperature distribution. In addition, the numerical soluti… more

Analysis of particle motions for a class of three-dimensional incompressible laminar boundary layers

Description: From Introduction: "Results obtained in the experimental investigations of secondary flows in turbomachines (refs. 1 to 3) indicate that information concerning three-dimensional laminar boundary-layer behavior can be of practical value in interpreting and correlating measurements of losses in the turbo-machines for design purposes. Reference 4 gives a theoretical analysis of the overturning (more than mainstream turning) of the three-dimensional laminar boundary layer developed on flat or nearl… more

Analysis of Pure-Bending Flutter of a Cantilever Swept Wing and Its Relation to Bending-Torsion Flutter

Description: From Introduction: "The present paper is intended to give some features of flutter in bending alone and contains results of analyses made to determine some effects of wing mass-density ratio, angle of sweepback, length-semichord ratio, and Mach number. Some relations of pure-blending flutter to the conventional bending-torsion flutter are also given."

An Analysis of Ramjet Engines Using Supersonic Combustion

Description: From Introduction: "The concept of supersonic combustion is by no means new, although little work appears to have been published on the subject. For example, an analysis of supersonic combustion to provide lift under a wing is given in reference 1. Reference 2 discusses applications to hypersonic ramjets being studied at the University of Michigan."

Analysis of shear strength of honeycomb cores for sandwich constructions

Description: From Introduction: "In the present report an analysis was undertaken to arrive at a mathematical formula by which the shear strengths of honeycomb core materials could be calculated. Experimental verification of the formula of the present paper was obtained by tests of honeycomb-type sheets of resin-impregated paper; two groups of specimens were tested, each of which represented a different resin-impregation treatment of the basic paper."

Analysis of shock motion in ducts during disturbances in downstream pressure

Description: From Summary: "The effect of small downstream pressure distributions on the position of a normal shock in a duct with area variation is analyzed. For the analysis, the gas flow is treated as quasi-one-dimensional, and boundary layer is neglected. The analysis shows that there is a first-order lag relation between shock position and small downstream disturbances in pressure which occur at frequencies below a given limit."

Analysis of Static Aeroelastic Behavior of Low-Aspect-Ratio Rectangular Wings

Description: "Slender-body theory is used in conjunction with late theory to analyze the static aeroelastic-divergence behavior of low-aspect-ratio rectangular wings of constant thickness when chordwise deformations are considered. In the analysis, the spanwise variation of the deflection is restricted to a parabola but the chordwise variation is allowed complete freedom. Results show the variation of the divergence speed and mode shape with the aspect ratio" (p. 1).
