[Book in a Steel Box]
Photographs of the 2005-2006 artist's book competition winner "Book in a Steel Box" created by Eric Blake. A small cloth-bound volume with graphite lines throughout is welded into a steel box. The book is visible along the spine and fore-edge through steel bars. The box does not open, and the book cannot be removed, making it an "inaccessible text." Pocket almanack, for the year of our Lord 1847
Almanac for 1847, bound in publisher's yellow printed wrappers, with hole at upper left through which a string is looped for suspension. The almanac contains information on eclipses, tides, phases of the moon, rising and setting of the moon/sun, historical facts, and quotations. Anonymous gift to the Miniature Books Collection in 2003.
