About the Language

Dakpa is a Trans-Himalayan language spoken in Trashigang district of Bhutan as well as in Tawang District in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Dakpa is also known as Brami in eastern Bhutan, while in India it is most often known as Tawang Monpa. The Glottocode for Dakpa language is dakp1242.

About the Collection

This collection includes Dakpa audio-video documentation and text annotations, and a number of photographs taken by the collector Tashi Tshewang which document both the documentation process and of associated places, people and artifacts. This project was funded by a FLICR Fellowship from the Centre for Cultural-Linguistic Diversity (Eastern Himalaya), with support from the Firebird Foundation for Anthropological Research.
