D. Jack Davis Art Education Collection

About D. Jack Davis

D. Jack Davis is (as of 2017) an Emeritus Professor of Art at the University of North Texas (UNT) and a former Co-Director (1990-2005) and director (2005-2011) of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. Davis holds a BA in Art and Education and an MA in Education from Baylor University as well as a PhD in Art Education from the University of Minnesota. From 1971-2011, Davis taught at UNT for 40 years and served in a variety of administrative capacities including department chair (1976-1983), Vice Provost of the University (1983-1993), and Dean of the College of Visual Arts and Design (1993-2004).

About the Digital Collection

The digital collection contains a selection of correspondence, newsletters, and grant reports related to art education and the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts (NTIEVA), headquartered at the University of North Texas. Dr. R. William McCarter, a long-time friend and colleague of Davis served as Co-Director of the Institute from its founding in 1990 until his retirement in 2005. Materials were scanned by the Institute and provided in a digital format to UNT Special Collections.

About the Physical Collection

Many items in the D. Jack Davis Art Education Collection have not been digitized, but are available for use in the UNT Special Collections Reading Room.
