BRAC 2005 DoD Report - Ground Operations

Description: The Ground Operations function included activities that currently host Naval ground forces. The range of activities analyzed for this function comprises those that currently support Naval ground units including USMC, Naval Construction Battalions, Naval Special Warfare Units, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams. Naval Air Station Fallon, NV was added to this list because the Army expressed interest in possibly stationing ground forces there. Because of their strategic location and potential for operational training of ground forces, a number of Army and Air Force activities were included in the Ground Operations analysis in addition to Department of the Navy activities.

Realign the USMC Direct Reporting Program Manager Advanced Amphibious Assault (DRPM AAA) facilities in Woodbridge, VA, by relocating the Ground Forces initiative D&A activities to Detroit Arsenal, Warren, MI.

Relocate all functions to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. Realign Fort Belvoir, VA, by relocating the Army Research Office to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. Realign the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Telegraph Road facility, Alexandria, VA, by relocating the Extramural Research Program Management function (except conventional armaments and chemical biological defense research) to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.
