Coalition Correspondence – Letter dated 7 June, 2005 to Chairman Principi from the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast

Description: Coalition Correspondence – Letter dated 7 June, 2005 to Chairman Principi from the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast signed by President and CEO Lynda Weatherman as well as Randall Harris, Chairman Space Coast Defense Alliance. The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast expressed approval for DoD’s BRAC 2005 recommendations, but believes the realignment recommendation affecting the Naval Ordnance Test Unit (NOTU) at Cape Canaveral Air Station missed significant factors that run counter to the Department's emphasis on transformation, joint basing, and efficiencies that can drive true cost-savings.

Base Visit Book - Patrick Air Force Base, FL Realignment Recommendations prepared for Commissioner James H. Bilbray on 09 June 2005

Description: Base Visit Book - Patrick Air Force Base, FL Realignment Recommendations prepared for Commissioner James H. Bilbray on 09 June 2005 DoD RECOMMENDATION is to realign Patrick Air Force Base, Cape Canaveral, FL, by relocating Nuclear Test and Evaluation at the Naval Ordnance Test Unit to Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic, Kings Bay, GA. DoD JUSTIFICATION is that it realigns the stand-alone east coast facility working in full-scale Nuclear Test and Evaluation at Cape Canaveral into a fully supported Navy nuclear operational site at Kings Bay to gain synergy in security (anti-terrorism force protection), fleet operational support and mission support infrastructure. Recent changes in anti-terrorism force protection requirements, the recent establishment of the Western Test Range in the Pacific, and the programmatic decision to no longer require land based (pad) launches at Cape Canaveral all lead to the realignment/relocation of this function to Kings Bay, GA
