Gay father, straight son base
relationship on honesty, respect
By Scott Mackey
STAFF REPORTER OF DALLAS VOICE
By all accounts, 16-year-old
Nathaniel Selig is a typical teenage
boy. He’s a tremendous sports
enthusiast, but he’s particularly
devoted to soccer. He’s a talented
string bass player in his high school
orchestra with his eye set on a new
car. And he recently got a summer job
to help pay for incidentals.
But there’s a major difference
between Nathaniel Selig and most of
his Richardson High School classmates.
Nathaniel has a gay dad.
Four short years ago, the lives of
both Nathaniel Selig and his father,
John, were changed forever. Dealing
with issues of surrounding his own
homosexuality, John came out to his
wife and to a then 12-year-old son.

City officials miffed over Minnelli booking; Stonewall
organizers dismayed over route designated by city
ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW YORK — The Stonewall 25
gay rights march commemorates a 1969
clash between bar patrons and police, so
perhaps it was inevitable that relations
between march organizers and the local
authorities would be rocky.
Last Thursday, organizers of the
June 26 march said they have reluctantly
accepted the city’s offer of a parade
NATIONAL
route from the United Nations into
Central Park.
But ACT UP and other activists said
they plan an unsanctioned march from
Greenwich Village uptown.
Meanwhile, city officials were angry
over the announcement that Liza
Minnelli, whose star power they fear
could pack too many people into
Central Park, had been announced as a
performer at the post-parade rally.

Improved Team Dallas basketball
squad gauges chances at Games
Jeff Ellison is coach of the Team Dallas
basketball squad.
By Scott Mackey
STAFF REPORTER OF DALLAS VOICE
Team Dallas basketball made it’s
first appearance at a Gay Games
tournament during the Vancouver games
in 1990. But it was a debut that many
would like to forget.
The team, then in its infancy,
suffered setbacks right before the games
stemming from a number of injured
players. So that year, the players came
home empty handed.
“We didn’t do too well,” said team
coach Jeff Ellison. “I lost all my shooters.

We didn’t win a game. I think we would
have done much better” if it hadn’t been
for the number of team injuries.
