House passes anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act by huge margin
Sponsors resist Kennedy
plan to add employment
protections to measure
By Dennis Vercher
A proposal by Sen. Edward Kennedy
(D-Mass.) to amend the Defense of
Marriage Act to include employment
protections for gays got a cold shoulder
this week from congressional sponsors
of the anti-gay-marriage measure.
Kennedy backed by gay rights lead-
ers, has announced he would attempt
to amend the marriage bill by including
provisions of another bill, the

Southern Belle Tolls — a hilarious 1995 send-up of Tennessee
Williams' classic, The Glass Menagerie — and Durang's 1985

For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls finds not Amanda and
i as the two tortured souls in interlocking pain, but
Amanda (Sharon Bunn) and Lawrence (Terry Dobson) as a
southern belle and her weirdo hypochondriac son. Lawrence
imagines all sorts of illnesses and uses them as justification
for not working. Lawrence collects not glass figurines, but
glass swizzle sticks.
His obsession with glass swizzle sticks stirs up some wild-
ly hilarious moments in the play. Lawrence recites all the
