2nd day-long ‘Lesbian Health
Matters’ event scheduled
Variety of screenings, services offered next Saturday
By Tammye Nash
Staff Reporter
Next Saturday's "Lesbian Health
Matters" Fair, the second such event
presented by the Lesbian Health
Initiative, will include "a little bit of
everything," noted Connie Winkle, an
event organizer.
The fair will offer free pap smears
and mammograms for women unable
to pay for the procedures, educational
information on breast self exams, HIV
testing and educational information on
HIV and women, iron testing, diabetes
screenings, thyroid stimulating hor-
mone (TSH) testing, blood pressure
checks, posture checks and chiropractic
information, and massage therapy,
Winkle said.
A physician is expected to be on
hand to discuss alternative insemina-
tion, and information on depression,
alcoholism and drug abuse also will be
available, she said.
Representatives of some 25 different
gay and lesbian and/or women's orga-
nizations will be on hand, Winkle said,
to answer questions and offer informa-
tion on their organizations.
"We're going to have lots of free stuff
to give away," she continued, such as
copies of Mamm and Circles magazines,
and posters from Glyde USA. "And
we're holding drawings every 15 min-
utes to give away some other gifts."
Raffle prizes include a $50 gift certifi-
cate to Times Square jewelers, a $25 gift
certificate to Vitto's Italian restaurant,
Organizers of the Lesbian Health Initiative’s second annual health fair, pic-
tured at a planning session this week, include (standing, l-r) Connie Winkle,
Edie Peterson, Dr. Ruth Durkee and (seated, l-r) Ginny Lindsey and Starr
Eaddy.
