Gay mortician found dead
The body of a gay mortician, 29-year-old
Timothy P. Ryan, was found last Saturday
locked in a casket at the Oak Lawn funeral
home he co-owned and operated. Authorities
said the body bore no obvious signs of trau-
ma and discounted the possibility that Ryan
had been murdered. They detained another
man for questioning in the case.
Candidate denies slurs
March leader departs
Malcolm Lazin, former co-executive director of
the Millennium March on Washington, denied
reports that he has resigned and said that
leaders of the March's board of directors
informed him by telephone on Feb. 1 8 that his
position had been eliminated. The move fol-
lowed a dispute between Lazin and board
members over the rally's producer.

State Rep. Domingo Garcia, who's seeking re-
election to his seat in the Texas House of
Representatives, vehemently denied rumors
that he had used anti-gay slurs or engaged in
anti-gay campaign tactics. But a long-time
political foe of Garcia, U.S. Senate candidate
Bobby Wightman-Cervantes, said the law-
maker had called him a "faggot" in the past.
