NT Connection is a new program
aimed at retaining freshman and
transfer students. The program is ad-
ministered through the Dean of Stu-
dents Office and was offered for the
first time in the fall semester of
1985. About 225 new students par-
ticipated in the program, with 40 up-
perclassmen serving as peer spon-
sors. The peer sponsors gave new
students information about academic
programs, study skills workshops,
and extracurricular activities. These
sponsors were not paid, but they re-
ceived one hour of elective credit
through the College of Education if
The main purpose of NT Connec-
tion is to help new students or trans-
fer students to become part of the
mainstream of our campus quickly.
The fall semester was an experi-
mental one for the program but
those in charge were pleased and in-
tend to continue it. Eventually, the
office hopes to extend the program
to all new undergraduate students.
