Abstract: A composition and method for producing plants with increased biomass and growth characteristics, and plants which flower early relative to wild-type plants. The MtNIP gene is over-expressed in plants to increase biomass, growth, and early flowering. Other genes in the NRT1/PTR family may also be over-expressed to increase biomass, growth, and early flowering.
