All residents were informed that ammonia fumes
are dangerous to inhale and can be irritingto ex-osed skirt ,
Shifting finds caused the
fumes to vary in intensity in the vicinity of
the plant.

About two dozen persons were taken tohospitals.,
Most of them went to nearby
Methodist hospital, where 23 victims were treated.
None of them is reported in serious condition.

dissipating and permitted workers to move into
the area.

The operating engineer at the plant said
a valve on an ammonia machine blew out, loosingthe ammonia.
He says he ran from the building
along with two other workers, Richard Broge and
Abraham Stuge.
Curtis skys he went bach and cut
off the main valve, then firemen stopped the flow
of ammonia when they arrived.9
