The one-percent sales tax bill for municipalities
is out of the legislature and awaits only the
governor's signature to become law, The bill,
delayed last week by a filibuster, was passed by
the state senate today, 20 to 10. The bill gives
cities the right to place a one-percent sales tax
on items currently covered by the state sales tax,
But the tax can be levied only after a vote of
the people in a municipality. The measure was
heavily supported by many mayors, among them
Dallas Mayor Jonsson. Fort Worth Mayor Barr
