In England the Religious Tract Society
seems to have had a monopoly on the title,
for except for the 1895 variant noted
above, we have found no mention of other
British publishers of this exact title. Copies
were sold from the Society's depository
at 56 Paternoster Row, and most issues
were printed by C. Whittingham,
While DAILY FOOD seems to be the
original and most widely issued three-inch
miniature compendium of daily bible quotations,
there are several different titles
and versions with the same purpose and
similarity of format.
One such is DAILY BREAD, For
Those Who Wait For The Lord, published
by Hamilton, Adams and Co., London,
1833. This measures 2 13/16 by 2 3/8
inches, contains 215 pages, with a morning
and evening bible quotation. Another
is WORDS IN SEASON FOR YOUNG DISCIPLES,
Or, A Text And Verse Of A Hymn
For Every Day In The Year. This measures
3 3/16 by 2 1/2 inches, contains 191
pages, was published in London by T.
Nelson and Sons, 1866. This last book
probably derived from an 1861 title of T.
Nelson and Sons: THE PATHS OF PEACE,
Or Words Of Wisdom For Young Disciples.
This was a shorter ninety-six page work,
same size, of bible sayings and verses,
which in this case was not organized by
month and day.
