The rate for Ke2 decays (K -+ e .v) is a severe test of the V-A theory
of weak interactions. The K meson can couple to the vacuum (leptons)
either as a pseudoscaler (P) or axial vector (A). The ratio of the Ke2
rate to the Kp2 rate is:
2 2 2
P (K-+ev) (mk 2-m ) fA m e/mk C\p
RTH = (K -+ pv.( - m ) t'A m / + P1 C
where C is an experiment-dependent electromagnetic correction ln this
7
experiment C = 0.861.. For pure A and pure P we have:
RTH(pure A)=CY [(2 - m2) /(2 2)] (m2 m 2) = 2.185 x l0-5
RTH(pure P)=CY (mk 2- me ) /(2 - m2) .901.
For pion decay, the experimental results(2) give
xpure A= 1.00 0.03
