CAR TRAIN ACCIDENT
A 17-year old Irving youth, Freddie Charles
Burchfield, in serious injury shortly before
9 o'clock this morning when bhe car he was driving
slammed into the side of a 95-car Frisco FreightTrain.
Burchfield'i car hit the trains fourth
locomotive.
The accident occurred at the Valley
View crossing in Farmer's Branch. The engineer of
the train, said he didn'X know the car had hit the
fourth of the train's five diesel units until the
fireman looked back and saw the wreckage of the
car where it had tumbled down into a ditch after
the collision. The train reportedly was moving
45 miles per hour when the car hit. Farmers
Branch Police Chief Cortney said there were skid
marks about 180-feet from the crossing but none./
/scloser than that.
The car, a 1958 customized
Ford, is damaged beyond repair with pieces of
the vehicle scattered over a wide area. Burchfield
was rushed to Parkland Hospital where his injuriesproved not serious.
