Avery tied him, changed into khakis and left.
Whittenberg freed himself in about thirty minutes
by cutting his rag strip bonds with a pair of clippers.
Avery took the engineer's watch and the
telephone wires in Whittenberg's quarters before
making his escape.
SHOT IN BOILER ROOM
From the engineer's room, Avery had only to walk
through the boiler room to reach the second of the
barred doors leading to freedom.
MUG SHOT
Long an associate of the Fort Worth underworld,
Avery was being held under bonds totaling
125-thousand dollars.. He is charged with the robberies
of a bowling alley, a cafeteria and two supermarkets.
