Script from the WBAP-TV/NBC station in Fort Worth, Texas, covering a news story about a tape recorder purchased in 1952 thst grew into a world wide organization called World Tape Pals. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Matthews bought the tape recorder so they could send tapes to their son Walter who was in the armed forces in Korea. The first tape made such a big hit that Matthews decided to send tapes to strangers in foreign countries, which then prompted others to do the same. World Tape Pals has grown to 3500 members in 65 countries.
The Special Collections Department collects and preserves rare and unique materials including rare books, oral histories, university archives, historical manuscripts, maps, microfilm, photographs, art and artifacts. The department is located in UNT's Willis Library in the fourth floor Reading Room.
