Great Lakes Wind Collaborative:
Best Practices to Accelerate Wind Power
in the Great Lakes Region and Beyond
Great Lakes Commission
December 31, 2011
" With project partners, conduct a strategic outreach plan to state and local
" decision-makers
The best practices are framed as advice to wind energy decsionmakers across the binational
Great Lakes region. Regulators, communities and developers should choose the mix of policies
and practices from this suite that best advances the development of clean, locally-generated
wind energy, protects natural resources, and honors the needs of communities.
Benefits/Outcomes
This project advanced general and technical knowledge of the potential benefits wind power can
offer and the means to bring it to fruition in a sustainable manner. This promoted a more
sustainable and energy-secure future for the Great Lakes region. The online toolbox of best
practices and policy options produced will enables regulators and developers alike to work in a
consistent and collaborative manner across the Great Lakes region in siting wind projects.
These practices will have a net positive effect for both the environment and economy in the
region.
