Description

The overall thrust of the United States-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (ROK) International Nuclear Energy Research Initiative (INERI) and Joint Fuel Cycle Studies Project is to reprocess spent Korean fuel from spent light water reactor (LWR) elements, cast the reprocessed fuel into fuel pins, encapsulate the fuel into cladding, and then irradiate the fuel in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). This study captures the due diligence conducted to ascertain the best hardware or systems for supporting the capsule closure welding process.
