Finite Element Model
FIgure 3 shows a finite element model of the Centrao Caiorir:rter
?1:port Cradie. For the hydraulic cases, the cradle is supported by teed
beams (STIF4) and spars (STIF8) that ensure that hydraulically cooled
supports will produce identical reaction forces, as do real hydraulics. The
failed quadrant consists of a 'gap' element (STIF52) at each support -cde
with (.25 inchiinitia' gap. This element wi]] allow a lack failure
s muation at that quadrant. For the mechanical case, the cracie is
supported by 0.00 inch initial gap spacers with 0 25 nitiai qap spacers at
t-e failed quadrant. Loads anid individual support arrangement are
y>alent to that in reference 1 and can be found in that note.
Two FRT AN programs (Appendix 1 and 2) were used to manipulate
,tress output from the finite element runs. The first, the Delete program,
Mletes ail u-necessary headers from the stress printouts The secer
cailea Program, takes the stress intensity of the static case anI a failed
case, Jivices them, and prints these factors and also the coordinates of
each node This list (approximately 1740 nodes) is reduced to the noc:es
that lie in the points of interest noted in Reference 1 (Section A-A,
Section B-B, Tie Plate, Stanchion and 3.5 inch Support Plates, and the Arm
Connect) Figures 4-8 show the nodes chosen for this analysis. The
program was also modified to pick out the factors that are greater Than
1 2 and less than 0.75. Appendices 3 through 7 contain the factor listings
for cases NUMBERONE through NUMBERFIVE.
