Description

  • Content Description: We have for some time been interested in developing a reasonably fast and universal (having little or no chemical selectivity) on-line mass analysis system to expand our capabilities in studying nuclei far from stability. The system selected was originally proposed by Nitschke and is termed RAMA an acronym for Recoil Atom Mass Analyzer. Basically, this system utilizes the helium-jet method to transport activity to a Sidenius hollow-cathode ion source which is coupled to a mass spectrometer. A comprehensive discussion of RAMA will appear elsewhere.
