This report presents background information on wilderness protection and a discussion of issues in the wilderness debate--the pros and cons of wilderness designation generally; possible considerations for specific legislation; and a discussion of possible wilderness study area designation and protection. This report will also track the status of legislation introduced in the 114th Congress to designated new wilderness or release or release wilderness study areas.
