The Shepherd On the Rock Schubert
When on the highest rock I stand, I can look down into the deep
valley and sing:
Far from the deep, dark valley the echo swings itself upward, re-echoin
sweetly
Yes, further my voice urges. Brighter it rings back to me from below.
My beloved lives so far from me, therefore I long for him tenderly,
over, over.
Further my voice urges, yes, brighter it rings back to me.
In deepest sorrow I consume myself
For me joy is behind. Upon the earth my hope is gone.
I am here so alone, thus my song, longingly rings in the woods.
So longingly it rings through the night. The heart is drawn toward
the heaven with wonderful might.
Spring is coming, spring of my joy. Now I make myself ready to
prepare to roam.
Further my voices urges, yes brighter it rings back to me from below.
With You Are My Thoughts Brahms
With you are my thoughts and they flutter, flutter around you. They
say they are homesick. Here they can no longer stay, here they
can no longer stay.
With you are my thoughts and wish from you, wish from you, never
to go forth. They say they were on the earth in the most beautiful
place.
They say, held insoluble your magic is fastened, they had on your
glance singed their wings.
Death, Which Is As The Cool Night
Death which is as the cool night,
Life is the sultry day
It darkens already. I am sleeph, The day has made me tired.
Over my bed rises a tree, therein sings the young nightingale. It
sings from a loud love, from a loud love. I hear it, I hear as
even in my dream, even in my dream.
Maidensong
On judgment day I shall arise and immediately look for my sweetheart,
and if I cannot find him, I shall lay myself again to sleep......
Oh hearts pain, you eternity! Together only is lasting bliss! And
could my sweet not enter in, I would not remain in Paradise!
