Description

In the previous report the governing equations were derived for the flow of granular materials down an inclined plane using the kinetic theory based model proposed by Boyle and Massoudi (1990). For a fully developed flow of these materials down an inclined plane, the equations reduce to a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations. The resulting boundary value problem was solved numerically and a parametric study was carried out to delineate how the various non-dimensional parameters affect the structure of the solution. Description

In the previous report the governing equations were derived for the flow of granular materials down an inclined plane using the kinetic theory based model proposed by Boyle and Massoudi (1990). For a fully developed flow of these materials down an inclined plane, the equations reduce to a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations. Further parametric studies were carried out and the results were in keeping with the previous studies. Also, a study of the flow of granular material between two vertical plates was carried out and compared with experiments in order to evaluate the continuum model.
