At hot and dusty Fort Worth, the troops of the 49th
National Guard Armored Division are air-lifted by
helicopter for the first time. The
guardsmen, on two weeks active duty at the Central
Texas military reservation, stage a bristling
combat exercise. After a heavy barrage of
artillery against a simulated gemy, big H-19
Sikorski helicopters carry the soldiers of the 49th
toward their objective. The troops in the airlift
are members of the Combat Command "A", commanded by
Colonel John F. B. Lyons of Fort Worth. They
represent companies from Grand Prairie, Cleburne,
Waxahachie and Arlington.
