FLOOD WATER,
Late in June, the rain--swollen Rio Grande reached
a flood crest of 62-and-a-half-feet and left
destruction from Del Rio to Laredo. Damage
into the millions; more than a score of Texans
died; ...and the toll was even greater on the
Mexican side. The story was judged the third
biggest of the year by the Associated Press --
certainly it was one of the most difficult to
report, except as we see i as it happened,d6""1'AP
Citizens of Laredo and Neuvo Laredo, who had a
river to seperate their cities before now were
engulfed by the same river. Thousands were left
homeless. Never in recorded history had the
usually-serene Rio Grande been on a rampage like
this one.4 I.
