PARKING BAN BEGINS IN DALLAS
MED OF SIGN
In Dallas, the controversial parking ban on three
downtown throughfares begins,. and this Texas
News survey indicates that the 90-day experiment
may not be a howling success. The ban, passed
over the objections of downtown businessmen,
prohibits parking on Main, Elm and Commerce
Streets, prohibits trucks from parking except
to unload merchandise, and raises the fine for
overparking on other streets from one to three
dollars. Police say that mahy passenger cars
are being parked on the streets and that trucks
apparently have been parked long past the time
needed to unload. Object of the new ordinance
is to provide extra lanes to handle
Dallas' overcrowded traffic. Police have issued
tickets to some and warnings to others without
announcing their method of selection. All
violators will begin to get tickets in a fewdays.
