Description

Most industrial processes require the use hydrocarbon based solvents that have been shown to hurt the environment. Chlorine radicals from chlorine based hydrocarbons are considered to be a major factor in the depletion of the stratospheric ozone levels. Because of the health and environmental problems these solvents cause, there is renewed interest in water soluble organometallic complexes that can be used as catalysts in the industrially important reactions. This report will discuss the synthesis and characterization of Ni trimers involving two phosphines, bis(diphenylphosphino)methane and bis(diisopropylphosphino)-methane. Progress towards the synthesis of Ni trimers with new capping ligands will also be examined.
