This project is related to development of genetic techniques for methylotrophic bacteria and the use of these to study genes involved in methanol oxidation. During the first two years of the project the authors defined the genetic organization of these Mox (methanol oxidation) genes and started to define their regulatory regions. Description

During the first two years of the project the authors defined the genetic organization of these Mox (methanol oxidation) genes and started to define their regulatory regions. During the next three year period, work involved defining genetic organization of key methylotrophic genes, studying upstream regions involved in transcription, and defining key regulatory genes for these systems. In the last three years of support, the project focused on identifying methylotrophy genes and the regions involved in their expression for comparative purposes, and began the process of analyzing the genes involved in transcriptional regulation of the Mox system in the strain for which they have ther most information, Methylobacter extorquens AM1.
