The new 1951 Greater Dallas telephone directory comes off
the press, shattering records for size as Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company employees prepare to distribute them.
The three-pound book contains 192-thousand listings and will
be sent to more than 21+0-thousand customers in Greater Dallas,
GrandPrairie, Richardson, Farmers Branoh and other smaller
communities. It took thirty employees working full-time thev
year around more than 47-thousand hours to compile the new
directory, which contains eleven hundred and eight pages.
That's 24 pages more than % s the last issue had. Officials
say a total of fifteen exchanges hage been added in Dallas
within the past year, and fifty thousand new connections are
expected before a new directory comes out nine months from
now. Some six hundred Dallasites are distributing the new
directories, and the job is slated to be finished next Wednesday.
It will help if subscribers have their old books ready, with
special
' I numbers copied down, and things like checks and othervaluables removed...ready to swap for a new one.
