Our speaker this month, Mr.
Sidney A. Johnson, was born in
Herkimer, N. Y. He received his
early training in the local gram-
mar schools and in 1928 he at-
tended Rensslear Polytechnic In-
After five years at Cornell he
was awarded the degrees Bachelor
of Chemistry and Chemical En-
gineer, and took a position with
the American Cyanamid Co.,-
Organic Chemicals Division.
Mr. Johnson left the practice of
engineering to study law at
George Washington University
and received the degree LL.B. in
1940. While engaged in this study
he was a member of the Examin-
ing Corps of the U. S. Patent Of-
fice, and for two years was Patent
Attorney for the American Cya-
namid Co. in charge of their
Washington Branch Office.
From 1941-1942 Mr. Johnson
was associated with the patent law
firm of Stevens and Davis in
Washington, and he was employed
by the Magnolia Petroleum Co.
as Chief of the Patent Section of
the Field Research Dept. in 1942.
He is a member of the Ameri-
can Chemical Society, the Ameri-
can Patent Law Association, the
Petroleum Engineer's Club of
Dallas, and the honorary law fra-
ternity, Phi Delta Phi. While at
George Washington University he
was a member of the Board of
