4.3 Hazardous Waste Generating Facilities
SRS classified facilities generating hazardous waste as either RCAs or non-RCAs. SRS defined an
RCA similarly to the DOE-HQ definition of an RMMA (see definitions and comparisons in Section 4.3.2).
As discussed in Section 4.1, facilities that generated hazardous waste include SRS reactors,
separations, waste management, raw materials, tritium production and management, and naval fuels areas,
the SRTC, and TNX facilities. All these generators had some facilities that were RCAs.
Those facilities that were strictly non-RCA from 1984 to 1991 and that generated waste managed by
WM include SRS's power generation facilities, DWPF, central shops (construction), motor pool,
photography, and other miscellaneous facilities and areas. SRS WM manages all onsite contractors'
hazardous waste, except the onsite security contractor, Wackenhut Services, Inc.
Table 3 presents the facilities (or areas) that sent waste to WM control from 1987 to 1991. Each
unique hazardous waste stream that WM shipped offsite during the period 1987-1991 is listed, along with
whether it is from within an RCA. Specific building numbers and locations are not available.
