Robert S. Casey, chief chemist of the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company and secretary
of the Division of Chemical Literature, received the 1949 Iowa Medal
of the ACS's Iowa Section, on December 16, in recognition of his contributions

prices of $1,400 and $3,000.... A later release from the Technical Microcard

the availability on microcards of Berichte der. Deutschen Chemischen
Geseltschaft and Liebig 's Annalen, while planned for publication are
Angewandte Chemie, Biochemische Zeitschrift, Die Chemische Fabrik,Journal

fuer Chemie, Physikalische Berichte. Physikalische Zezts.chrzft,

und Allgemeine Chemie. Microcards of a number of leading American and Eng.
lish periodicals are also envisioned. A new, light-weight microcard reader
has been placed on the market.
The Microfi Im Rapid Selector developed by Engineering ResearchAssociates,
Inc., under contract with the Office of Technical Services is receiving
continued developmental study by the Department of Agriculture with the
support of the Atomic Energy Commission, whose first use will involve the
maintenance of records of new research with radiosotopes.... The whole
subject of micro methods of storage and finding of facts was reviewed in a
November, 1949, editorial staff report in Chemical Industries.

Zator Techniques, a new "occasional journal" on Zatocoding, is now being
published by the Zator Company (79 Milk Street, Boston 9, Massachusetts)
and is available on request. Zatocoding is said to be "a system of punched
card coding based upon the statistical properties of multiple informationbearing
random code patterns punched in superposition upon a single coding
area of the card."

20, D.C.) is offering various book-information services, including specialized
monthly bulletins.... Information Services, Inc., (Detroit) has
made available general information services and library establishment
programs.... The John Crerar Library (Chicago) has established an annotated
card file of the monographic Russian-language literature on
chemistry.... The Technical Information Division of the Georgia Tech Engineering
Experiment Station (Atlanta) has -announced plans for a Digest of
Petroleum Refining Patents and related services (card files, etc.), to be
available on a nonprofit basis to participating companies. A Monthly
Summary of Industrial Developments (Related to Petroleum Processing) is
already being published in a similar manner.
