A Line-Formula
Chemical Notation
WILLIAM J. WISWESSER
Here is a new technique for handling
data about chemical compounds. By the
use of this chemical notation even complicated
chemical structures may be expressed
concisely and without ambiguity in a single
line of letters, numbers, and punctuation
marks. It provides a way of indexing
chemical compounds and prevents confusion
in chemical nomenclature.

_,.,.for company files
If your organization is contemplating the establishment or revision of a mechanical
information retrieval system, we call your attention to Zator Company's wide
practical experience in this field. Since 1948 licensed Zatocoding systems (method
of random superimposed codes)* have been continuously operating in numerous
laboratory files, on wide-ranging subjects, with some having as many as 30,000
cards. Approximately half our installations have been in replacement of unsatis'
factory "amateur-engineered" punch card systems. A Zator expert furnishes pert
sonal supervision and advice to the client throughout installation to insurethat the
retrieval system will perform as intended. The high-speed Zator "800" Selectort
for notched Zatocards is the fastest card selecting machine known on the market.
Expert assistance in the use of all code systems, or the use of Perkins (needle'
sort) cards, Hollerith tabulating cards, or "Batten" cards is available. Inquiries
concerning your company indexing projects are solicited.
