The Office of Scientific Information Services
of the National Science Foundation has just announced
the following notes which should be of interest to our

subject of the second publication in a Foundation series,
Scientific Information Activities of Federal Agencies,
scheduled for release about June 1. The first in this
series of inventory reports concerned the Department

Documentation, to be published in June, will describe.

techniques, equipment development, and related research
programs. This report will be on sale through Superintendent
Information practices and problems within the
biological sciences have come under the examination of
an ad hoc study group of the American Institute of
Biological Sciences. Established with a Foundation
grant, the group held its final meeting May 5, and is
expected to come up with recommendations for an overall
biological information system.
A study of Federal Agency depositories and
field offices for the dissemination of scientific information
is being carried on by a sub-committee of the
Federal Advisory Committee on Scientific Information.
The sub-committee was set up at a March meeting of the
17-member advisory panel. No reporting date has been
set as yet.
Patra Travel Agency is offering to American
Librarians and Information Specialists a tour of the
Soviet Union under the leadership of Alexander J. Rolick
and Karol Maichel. This would be a splendid opportunity
for the Chemical Literature people to personally meet
Librarians in the USSR at such places as All-Union
Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (USSR
Academy of Sciences); All-Union Patent and Technical
Library; All-Union State Library of Foreign Literature;
and Libraries of scientific, technical, and medical
institutions in the various cities of their itinerary. For
